Welcome to Mrs. Frank's Kindergarten
A "Hoppy" Place to Learn
Hop into a world of learning! Students will enter a cooperative place and happy space where everyone is supported while trying new things and learning new concepts.
We will be especially busy learning to read and write everyday! All students will become readers and writers with our goal being the development of a LOVE of reading and writing now and into the future.
Furthermore, students will jump into math with an understanding of how number patterns work, counting, and sorting.
Certainly, it is a wonderful year in KINDERGARTEN as everyone leaps into learning! Please contact me with any questions, concerns, or exciting and great news you would like to share!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Frank

About Me
My name is Julie Frank, and I am so excited to be your child's teacher this year! I believe Kindergarten should be a fun cooperative year of learning where your child develops a love for reading and writing and the strong foundation of his/her academic years is firmly put into place.
My education includes a Bachelor of Science degree from MacMurray College and a Master of Science in Education from SIUE. My emphasis in my graduate coursework was in reading, so I LOVE to teach reading and writing!
I live on my family farm in Moro, IL, with my husband and three children. My family and I love to watch baseball, volleyball, and theater productions. My three children are active in sports and theater. Our travels include ball tournaments, but our favorite place to travel is Walt Disney World! My pets include one dog. For hobbies I like to read, play Scrabble, sew, and play euchre (a card game) with my family. I believe people should never stop learning, so I am usually open to trying new games and hobbies.
Now that you know a little bit about me, I cannot wait to learn about you! This is a great year of learning for you and me!

October Classroom Activities
Reading Tips
1. As you are driving down the road, point to signs (McDonald's, Burger King, etc.) and ask your child, "What does that sign say?"
2. Point to an object and say, "What sound do you hear at the beginning of the name of this object?" (Hold up a pencil. Ask you child to name the beginning sound - /p/.)
When you are reading and you come to a word you don't know...
1. Get your mouth ready (Say the first three sounds of the word.)
2. Skip the tricky word and read to the end of the sentence to see what would make sense.
3. Check the picture.
4. Look for parts or chunks of the word that you know.
5. Reread and think "Does that make sense?"
